Leh Schools Closed due to COVID-19: As per the latest update, Leh District Disaster Management Authority has directed all schools, residential hostels and coaching centres in the state to remain closed until 30th April 2021. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the COVID-19 surge in the district. The decision to close down schools and other educational institutions in the district was taken by Mr Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority.
Official Circular / Order Issued
In a circular issued on 17th April – Saturday, the DDMA Chairman noted that all schools, residential hostels and coaching centres in the Leh district will remain closed until April – end. As per his statement, the order must be followed strictly. Otherwise, it will invite strict actions. The official statement read “All government and private schools including residential hostels, schools in Leh district shall remain closed for imparting on-campus offline classes to the students of all classes up to Class 12 with immediate effect till April 30”. The circular also added that the decision to close all Leh schools, residential hostels and coaching centres had been taken in public health and safety interest.
Online Classes / Teaching to Continue
While schools, residential hostels and coaching institutions have been asked to close down in the district, the education department has said that online classes and virtual teaching will continue for the students of the district. Online classes and E-Learning Classes are to be continued by schools until further orders are issued by DDMA. The decision comes as the number of COVID-19 cases in the district has seen a steep rise in recent days. As per the notification released by the Directorate of Health Services, Ladakh, the district reported 245 new COVID-19 cases, which is the single highest day spike for the hill region. The total number of Coronavirus cases in the J&K UT stands at 11,709.
