Jadavpur University Closed due to COVID: As per the latest update, the Jadavpur University authorities have decided to close down the varsity until 3rd May 2021 due to the sudden spike in the COVID-19 cases in West Bengal. The decision has been taken on Saturday, following which limited staff members would be allowed on campus to provide logistical support for the organization of online classes for the students.

Speaking to PTI news agency, Jadavpur University Registrar Mr. Snehamanju Basu noted that only basic emergency services, required for giving logistical support to online classes. He also added that for now all the administrative work of the varsity would be carried out in virtual mode. For those activities which require the presence of staff members on the campus, such activities would be carried out only with the presence of very few staff who will be given all necessary protection to avert contamination.

Decision after Several Students, Staff Reported Positive

As per media reports, the university took the decision to close down the university, after a number of students and staff members of the university reported positive for COVID-19. The reports of Coronavirus cases were reported from the university after the reopening of an administrative building which is the hub of academic activities. Following this, the university has decided to close down the varsity until 3rd May 2021. During the period of closure, the university will undertake extensive sanitization of the entire campus to get rid of any virus hotspots. During this period, all the senior functionaries including Vice-Chancellor Prof Suranjan Das, Basu herself, faculty members are working from home.
