Uttarakhand government asks state Universities to remain closed until further notice: Uttarakhand state government has decided to shut all the universities in the state until further orders considering the increasing COVID-19 cases in the state. The Joint Secretaries for Higher Education – MM Semwal announced the decision for shutting down educational institutions on Monday. The government had earlier issued its order for shutting down schools until April 30, 2021.
Semwal while speaking to the media further stated that the order will be applicable for all the government and private universities in the state. Online classes will however continue in the universities.
Universities asked to postpone exams
The Ministry of Education recently asked the Centrally funded institutions including NITs, IITs Central Universities, and IITs to postpone the offline examinations scheduled for May 2021. A decision on conducting the examinations will be taken by Ministry officials in the first week of June 2021.
Uttarakhand COVID-19 cases
Cases in Uttarakhand are on the rise with close to 5,403 cases being reported in the state on Monday. 128 deaths were also reported in the state. The government is also working on the hospital infrastructure in the state. Hospitals have also been directed to treat patients showing COVID-19 symptoms.
Increases in the COVID-19 cases across the country have forced the schools, colleges, and other educational institutions to close down considering the safety of the students and teachers. The examinations have also been postponed by the universities until further notice considering the increasing COVID-19 cases and fatality rates in the country. Boards like CBSE, ICSE, and a few of the state boards have cancelled the class 10 exams while the class 12 examinations have been postponed until further notice.
