CBSE Board 12th Exam 2021 Not Cancelled: In response to several speculative media reports, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued clarification that currently no decision has been taken about cancellation of CBSE 12th Exam 2021 for Senior Secondary Students. The clarification comes as a major relief for students, who were worried about exam being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier in the day, media reports emerged quoting that the Class 12 Exam of the CBSE Board would be cancelled in the light of the prevailing situation of Coronavirus. Looking at the consistent COVID-19 cases numbers, the reports quoted a senior official from Education Ministry saying that the Board might consider cancellation of exam. However, refuting these reports, the board has said that as of now no decision has been taken about the cancellation of Class 12 Board exams and that review meeting is likely to be held in June 2021.
Clarification issued by the Board
Clearing the air around rumours and speculations of CBSE 12th Exam 2021 being cancelled, the Board said that ““It is clarified that no such decision has been taken regarding CBSE class 12 examinations as being speculated in certain sections of media. Any decision taken in this matter will be officially communicated to the public.” The clarification puts much needed clarity and provides some mental relief to the students, who have been worried about the exams and the rumours that regularly surround them.
Students Demand Cancellation of Exams
While the board has issued clarification saying that as of now there is no plan to cancel the Class 12 Board exam, students and parents have been repeatedly raising the demand for cancellation of CBSE 12th Exam 2021. Many students have taken to social media platforms such as twitter, where they have put forth their concerns about their safety and well-being, if the exams are held amid the on-going severe 2nd Wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
In fact, on social media platforms, hashtags such as #saveboardstudents and #cancel12thboardexams have been used to launch online campaign to highlight concerns of the students. Earlier, students had also filed a petition on Change.org, urging the government to cancel the board exams in the wake of the coronavirus disease which has garnered more than one lakh students’ signatures.
Petition Filed in Supreme Court
Along with online campaigns, today a petition has also been filed before the Apex Court of the country, demanding cancellation of Class 12 Board Exams. The petition filed by Advocate Mamta Sharma has asked the court to intervene and order cancellation of exams. The petition also asks the court to direct the board to evolve an ‘objective methodology’ to declare the results instead of examination.
As per reports, the petitioner has said that “The problem is of covid cases. As the cases are increasing day by day how education system can conduct board exams that are to risky in light to once life. Will education system take responsibility of students who will be tested positive.”
