CBSE 12th Exams expected to be delayed: Experts
The number of cases being reported in the country is on an increase and many of the states have announced lockdowns to curb the spread of the infection. Teachers and experts are worried especially regarding the postponement of the class 12 board examinations.
According to opinions from experts during the first wave of the pandemic, it took roughly three months for the active cases to reduce and it can be presumed that exams will not be conducted in June and there is a possibility that the exams will be conducted in July.
Principal, SPS Mrs. Goyal was of the opinion that the chances of conducting the exams in June are scarce. She further added that no parent or student will be willing to appear for the exams, the second wave of the pandemic has caused havoc and impacted many of the students who have lost their family in the process. With this scenario, the teachers and students are looking at the possibility of the exams being conducted in late July or August.
CBSE 12th examinations cannot be postponed further
Experts have pointed out that there has to be a deadline that has to be followed. Postponing the class 12 exams until August can be considered but a date beyond that will not be worthwhile. The academic year has already extended by 3 months and adding yet another 3 or 4 months means the loss of a semester followed by 2 months means a year being lost.
The CBSE and other state boards must decide on an alternative plan and consider their options. Provisional results should be declared and the UGC also needs to step up and consider implementing relaxed guidelines for undergraduate admissions. Experts also suggest that universities must consider interviews, online admission tests for the admissions.
Students in class 12 across the country are awaiting a decision regarding the examinations with a large number of students demanding the cancellation of the examinations. Clarity over the situation is however expected in June once the situation is assessed for conducting the examinations.
