Mrs Jyoti Rupaal was crowned Mrs Popularity Classic at Mrs Asia International World Grand Finals-2017 in a glitterati event held in Hengdian World Film City, Hengdian Town, Dongyang City, Zhejiang Province, China on Nov 30, 2017. Thirty contestants from Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, China, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Macau, United Kingdom, Thailand, Singapore and others competed for the coveted crown. Judges had a tough time to select the winners and runners up as all the contestants were winners and runners up in their respective country. Wife of an army officer, Col DS Rupaal, Jyoti kept her nerves cool and eventually bagged the title.

Brought up in New Delhi and now residing with her husband in Chandigarh, Jyoti is always empowered with her family support. Almost twenty years ago, when she met in a road accident, battling for her life with fifty stitches on her face, she had no clue of entering in the world of beauty pageant. Today she attributes this achievement to women empowerment. “I never thought I would be normal and God has blessed me a second life to achieve this feat” said Rupaal.

Road to this feat was been never so easy as finalists were selected in a very streamlined and standardised selection process over a period of time between December 2016 to July 2017. This involved auditions, state & zonal pageant and national level pageant culminating in the Asia International Global Pageant.  ‘It has been a gruelling one year since auditions in Jan 17’ says Mrs. Jyoti Rupaal, who passed through stage of Zonal and the National level before going to the International Pageant.

For the event in China, thirty beautiful ladies arrived from different corners of the world for the Grand Finals-2017 at Hengdian Grand Hotel in China on November 26.  Training, pre judging, Photo shoots, Press conference and choreography was part of the five day event which culminated as Grand finale on November 30. The event was attended by large number of distinguished guests.  On the final day, the contestants presented their best in the talent round, traditional wear round and finally the evening gown round.

As an educationist, Jyoti spearheaded many literacy movements in Punjab. Also being very active in Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), she initiated several projects addressing to women welfare within the army limits. “After achieving this laurel, I feel like spread my area of working by engaging myself in social welfare and women empowerment outside the army limits. I want to join social help group or any NGO in this direction for the national prosperity, wherein my husband is also willing to join me” expresses Jyoti.

Addressing her views on women empowerment, Jyoti said, this notion begins from home itself. Citing an example of a house maid, Jyoti said, “Empower her with financial awareness like Banking, Saving Schemes, Pension to lead her even much better life in the society.” She also advocates about women’s’ health, hygiene and other women rights.

Present on the occasion also, Jyoti’s husband Col DS Rupaal said, “Marriage is not the end of a women’s dream. If family supports and she aligned with her confidence, dreams of her is still achievable”
