Results to be Based on Internal Assessment

For the 2020 session, the Madhya Pradesh Board has decided to promote students on the basis of internal assessment keeping in mind the safety of students during the pandemic. Earlier, the State Education Department had also released the detailed evaluation criteria for promotion of Class 9 students, which is to be followed by Schools this year.

Internal Assessment and Evaluation Criteria

To ensure fairness and transparency in the internal assessment process for Class 9 students, the Madhya Pradesh Board has released detailed evaluation criteria that are to be followed by the schools. The evaluation criteria have been decided as classes 9 and 11 as final examinations could not be conducted due to the second wave of the pandemic. The key highlights or important points of internal assessment criteria are as follows:

Marks from Revision Test vs Half-Yearly Exam

To complete the internal assessment of Class 9 and Class 11 students, schools are to consider revision tests conducted from 20th to 28th November 2020 and the Half Yearly exams conducted from 1st to 9th February 2021. The best of both marks are to be considered for internal assessment.

Best of 5 Subjects

As part of the internal assessment process, schools have to consider the best of 5 subjects formula. Simply put, if a student fails in 1 subject (scores below 33% marks) in 1 subject, overall he is to be considered as passed and is to be promoted to the next grade.

Grace Marks Policy

In case a student is failing in more than 1 subject, schools have been empowered to award grace marks of up to 10 marks in 1 or more subjects.

Re-Appear Exam

In case a student still fails after the grace marks in 2 or more subjects, he or she would be given another opportunity to appear for the exam in the said subject. In case, a student has not appeared for either November Revision Test or Half-Yearly Exams held in February, they are to be given chance to re-appear for the exam.
