Schools and Hostels in Guwahati to be closed for 15 days

Assam education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that all the educational institutions and hostels in the Kamrup Metro district will be closed for 15 days given the increase in the COVID-19 cases. He further added that other districts are also required to follow the directions in case the number of active COVID-19 cases reaches a point that requires institutions to close down.

The minister in a tweet mentioned that with the cases exceeding 1000 in Kamrup metro the DC has been advised to shut down all the educational institutions including hostels for 15 days for the time being. The other districts where the numbers increase are also required to follow such measures, he further added.

Earlier, the education minister had informed that the Kamrup Metro district administration can decide to close the educational institutions and hostels if the number of active cases of COVID-19 crosses the 1000 mark.

Assam Cases

According to data shared by the education minister who is also the health minister, the district currently has 1153 active COVID-19 cases. The education minister also added that schools until class 8 will be closed in the districts with over 100 active COVID-19 cases.

While speaking at a press conference the Education minister said that the district excluding Chirang, Biswanath, Baska, Majuli, Dima, Hasao, Charaideo, Hailakandi, South Salmara, and West Karbi Anglong have already crossed the 100 marks and the schools in the remaining districts will be closed completely.

Students in Assam appearing for the Assam HSLC and HS final and university examinations are still continuing with the protest for postponing the examinations.
