Union Education Minister Meets State Education Secretaries: Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ today interacted with the Education Secretaries to review on-going online education for students amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of their efforts, Mr Pokhriyal advised states to provide Digital Devices to students to enable their academic continuity in the state. Education Minister held his virtual meet with the State Education Secretaries virtually today at 11 AM.

As part of the virtual meeting, Education Minister also reviewed the implementation of the New National Education Policy 2020. The NEP 2021 provides several new avenues using which virtual classrooms and education or the students can be streamlined more easily by the states. This has been the first virtual meeting of Mr Pokhriyal with the state education secretaries during the ongoing second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Focus on Mental Well-Being of Students

Along with enabling and empowering students academically, Education Minister also directed Education Secretaries to pay equal emphasis on mental well-being of the students. During the meet, Mr Pokhriyal also suggested that Bharat Net be used to connect all the schools. Apart from this, he also advocated effective use of ‘Manodarpan’ portal and “Grief Session” is to be arranged at required places. The official statement issued by Education Ministry summing up Minister’s meeting says “Education is the top priority and as instructed by the Government of India, a COVID action plan to ensure uninterrupted education is required.”
